Local Family Remodel’s SHOP ‘n SAVE® from Floor to Ceiling

PITTSBURGH, Pa. September 25, 2014 –The Charley Family, who have been in the local grocery business for four generations, have announced the grand remodel celebration at the Pittsburgh Street SHOP ‘n SAVE store, which will take place on Thursday, September 25th. In order to elevate the shopper experience, the completely renovated SHOP ‘n SAVE in Greensburg will offer residents an expanded sales floor that allows the grocer to offer additional products and services that are in high demand of their customers.

“My family and I are very excited to bring this remodeled store to the Greensburg community,” said Tom Charley, SHOP ‘n SAVE owner. “We put our customers first throughout the entire remodel process with minimal effects to the shopping experience. Ultimately, we wanted to add value to our store so the customer will enjoy their weekly shopping trip and continue to chose us for their grocery needs.”

The Charley Family has been in the grocery business for four generations, beginning with Mike Charley who emigrated from Syria at the age of 16 and began selling produce door to door from a sack on his back. He built a reputation of honesty, hard work and perseverance, the same traits the Charley Family continues to implement into their everyday business and throughout the remodeling process.

The planning process for the new Pittsburgh Street SHOP ‘n SAVE was very strategic and took over a year to finalize the details of the new store. With the increasingly competitive grocery industry, the Charley Family knew as an independent retailer they needed to reinvest in order to stay competitive. After a year of renovations, the store gained 2,500 sq ft. of sales floor and received brand new floors, checkouts, cases and appliances.

“During the planning process we did an in-depth analysis that included competitive research, evaluation of our sales on the floor and primary research through customer inquiries. It was like a report card that gave us laser-focus insight into our customers and their needs. It’s our job to capitalize on that information and constantly improve our business,” said Mike Charley, SHOP ‘n SAVE owner.

The SHOP ‘n SAVE will have 3 brand new features: artisan bread baked fresh daily, a full-service fresh seafood counter, and a beer store called SHOP ‘n SAVE Brews. There were also updates and relocations made to the pharmacy, expanded health and beauty section, full-service deli, fresh produce, expanded prepared food options, and a dairy and frozen foods section. The Charley Family also invested in all new appliances that are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly while also preserving the quality of the product.

“This investment and complete renovation demonstrates our dedication to the best quality store in our market,” said Ray Charley, SHOP ‘n SAVE owner. “We are blessed to have a wonderful and committed staff to make this a jewel in Greensburg.”

The new store offers double coupons, weekly specials and everyday savings throughout the store. When customers sign up for a SHOP 'n SAVE Perks Card, they receive special discounts, along with “Pump Perks” to save on fuel purchases at over 130 participating SUNOCO gas stations.

The grand remodel celebration of the Pittsburgh Street SHOP ‘n SAVE is September 25th with doors opening at 7 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony held in front of the store with local dignitaries. The store is located at 730 E Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601 and will be open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, please visit
